VISITORS STILL COMING AND MORE SNOW ON THE WAY

TAKEN NEW YEAR'S EVE ON VAIL MOUNTAIN
Eagle County Airport -- which serves the ski resorts of Vail, Beaver Creek/Bachelor Gulch, and Arrowhead -- reports its heaviest traffic since the December 2007-January 2008 holidays.
Moreover, flights are fully booked for both arrivals and departures for the rest of this week until Saturday, January 9th, which is the resorts' usual "changeover" day.
With new snow forecasted for tomorrow and Wednesday, this week's new arrivals should be very happy.
In other ski-related news, the first part of a proposed two-part gondola that would be a marquee feature of a new village to be built at the base of Vail Mountain in the Lionshead area received approval from the U.S. Forest Service. Also just completed is Cat Alley, a snowcat and snowmobile access road which is another component of the base village project. More approvals are needed but the project --known as EverVail -- is on track and on schedule, according to the Director of Mountain Public Affairs who expressed hope for final approvals by late summer or early fall.
